Republic of Turkey citizen natural persons or legal entities registered in the Turkish Trade Registry owning and operating ships and association of shipowners or public of private establishments and representatives engaging in maritime transport are entitled to become a member of this association regardless of whether they are Turkish Flag or Foreign Flag provided that they adopt the purposes and principles of the association, agree to operate accordingly and bearing the requirements stipulated by the regulations. However, foreign natural persons are required to have the right to settle in Turkey to become a member. This requirement doesn’ t apply for honorary membership.
The membership application to be submitted to the association administration shall be resolved as admission to membership or rejection of request by the association’ s board of directors within thirty days at the latest, and the result shall be notified to the applicant. The member, whose application is approved, shall be registered in the relevant ledger.
Honorary membership is granted by the recommendation of the Board of Directors and approval of the General Assembly to persons who have provided significant material and moral support for Turkish shipping industry and to Turkish Shipowners Association especially with their work and contributed to the association in realization of its purposes with positive and useful works. Residence is not required for honorary membership.
Honorary Members are entitled to participate in the General Assembly and take the floor, however, they are not entitled to elect or to be elected nor cast vote.
